HAVING A FABULOUS SUMMER!

WOW, what a great summer we had and this fine weather appears to be following us right into October for Marathon Season!

The ORCA wind up BBQ and 5 Km Race on September 26th was a great success and it was so much fun to catch up with everyone who attended. There were seven runners and hopefully next year many more can make it out!

Good Luck next weekend to the groups going down for the Royal Victoria Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K. Time to show off all that great training and reap the rewards! You've earned it! Also, Good Luck to the Nike Womens Marathoner's going to San Francisco the following weekend...(it's going to be a blast!)

And remember to check out the website for the various weekly runs, there is nothing like running with a group, ESPECIALLY OURS!!

See you out there!

MESSAGE FROM THE AQUA TERRA TRIATHLON GROUP

Hi Everyone,
Well the sun has gone from our Tuesday evening rides, so it is time to get in out of the cold and start spinning.
We will spin every Tuesday evening at Ballenas Secondary at 6pm sharp in the french wing. Use the side entrance ( left side of school when looking from the road). Please give yourself enough time to set up your bike, as we will start spinning right a 6pm.
There is no experience necessary, everyone follows the same workout but spins at their own pace. Everyone welcome.
There is no cost for the spinning if you are an Aqua Terra Tri Club Member. If you are not a club member there is a one time fee of $15 for the whole season.
Aqua Terra has two trainers that can be rented if you would like to give it a try before you buy one. They are offered on a first come(email me) basis, and are $5 per session.
If you need a hand to set up please come at least 15 min early.
If you would like to buy a trainer, Arrowsmith Bikes, and Island Cycle in Parksville, Head over Wheels in Qualicum, or Oak Bay Bikes in Nanaimo (Longwood Station, by Frontrunners) are all great places to purchase one. Oak Bay Bikes & Frontrunners both offer a discount to club members.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me by email robandkimw@shaw.ca or phone 250-954-1283.

SEPTEMBER ARTICLE

A LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP

Loving, and sometimes loathing our time together
Running remains a friend on whom I depend
Managing life’s pain and enhancing its pleasure,
We have braved it all through the cycle of weather
As relationships go, we’ve shared good times and bad
The runners high and the body’s’ low
This friend sometimes exposes my worst
Many times I’ve wavered, many times I’ve cursed
From apathy to injury and self inflicted abuses
My faithful companion forgives the excuses
Time marches on, friendships come and go
This one constant amidst the ebb and flow
Clearing my mind, stress left behind
Effort altered to energy
Mind, muscle; synergy
The culture of running
Elites and neophytes
Endorphins and electrolytes
Massage and physio, fire and ice
Training and pace, a coveted race
Goals and gear, a distance I fear
Hitting the wall; and watching it fall
The energy of an event; electric and palpable
In a group or alone in my thoughts
Personal bests to times best forgotten
Running;
As simple or as complicated as I want it to be
I hope our friendship continues to thrive
Reaping the rewards, feeling alive
Nurtured as we age, foundations laid
Love?, passion?, obsession?
Call it what you will, but to me it is still;
Freedom, inspiration, and fun
Always there, it is simple;
Just run.
