EDITORIALHappy New Year Team Orca Members!It is so hard to believe that we are already one month into 2006! I am very excited to be a part of our executive this year, and please let me know if you have any suggestions for the newsletter or would like to contribute an article of interest. And of course, comments are welcome.I also look forward to another year of running with Team ORCA and achieving new personal goals. Good luck to you both at the Island Series this year!Team Orca Membership Renewal Time!A reminder that our 2006 Team Orca membership fees were due January 1st, 2006. Fees are still $10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for families. It is also important that you sign the waiver form located on the back of your application form and include it with your fees.This form can either be downloaded from our website, or picked up from an executive member, the pool, Outsiders, etc. Please be sure that the information you fill out on the front is current. Membership forms and fees should be sent to Kim Longmuir at 629 Banks Ave. West, Parksville, B.C. V9P 1G2. ORCA SingletsIf anyone is interested in ordering a team singlet, there are a few sizes available in inventory; small, medium and large in ladies; medium and large in men's. If we don't have what fits; they can be ordered. The cost is $30.00. Arrangements can be made by emailing Pam Horbay or phone 738-0447. There is a minimum order requirement of 12 before an order can be placed. Also, anyone who might like to have the ORCA logos screened onto a personal clothing item can make the same arrangement with Pam. Small logos are $3.00 and the larger logos are $3.50 (a minimum of 12 items to be screened to place order). Great idea for hoodies, T-shirts, or tanks!Club Equipment StorageDo you have extra storage space? Team equipment and supplies are currently being stored at the Longmuir's, but they are seeking a new home for approximately 7 to 8 large plastic totes and some boxes of miscellaneous kitchen supplies. Well the first race of the season is behind us and what a perfect day it was for running! The weather cooperated and it was a beautiful,crisp sunny morning and there was an amazing turn out for the race. Team ORCA had a very good showing with 19 racers and 9 of those placing in the top 10 of their respective age categories. Rhys Harrison placed 1st in his age group; Laurie Ritchie placed 2nd, as did Diedre Best which is also her first race with Orca; Melissa Ross placed 3rd and Sharon Farinha did likewise; Heather Beatty placed 5th while Bill Vinton dashed into 7th; Kim Longmuir was 8th in hers while Patti Rogers rounded out the top 10 in her group. Congratulations go out to all the runners...Way to go! Team Orca places 4th within the club standings behind Prairie Inn Harriers in first place, Team West Coast in second and CeeVac Road Runners in third. The next race is the Mill Bay 10k on January 29th. Hope to see you out there! |

No experience is necessary, just a big smile and warm clothing!!! Kim is coordinating the volunteer list and needs people to help as marshals (directing on the course), registration, awards, refreshments, set up and take down, and course set up help. If you are able to volunteer your time, please let Kim know at your earliest convenience (248-8515 or rjl@island.net) what job you would be interested in. She will try her best to meet your request. Your time would be needed from 12:00pm until about 3:00pm, depending on your job. Learn to awaken, activate and strengthen the muscles around your hips, spine and shoulders with basic and advanced exercises that are "geared" toward healthy running!
